History of Corn Mazes
Mazes have been around for a very long time. Hedge mazes have been popular in Europe for hundreds of years. The American Indians used to make mazes out on the flat ground with stones. Twenty to thirty years ago, Nevada hosted some brush type walk through mazes. However, corn mazes are a relatively new idea. The first corn maze of this new venue was in Pennsylvania in 1993. It was a super success, so it wasn't long before corn mazes started popping up all over the place. Today there are hundreds of corn mazes all over the world.
History of Poppin Corn Maze
In 2001, Jay and Kimberlee Hine added three corn mazes to their fall activities at the Family Pumpkin Patch, located adjacent to S & H Campground. Using GPS, approximately 3 miles of paths were cut in 12 acres of corn. By creating three different mazes, we created a maze for individuals of all ages. Preschoolers enjoyed TeePee Town, which contained a life size authentic teepee and playground equipment surrounded by corn. Twist-N-Turn provided an intermediate maze without a lot of `dead ends'. Mighty Maze, provided over 2.5 miles of paths, with plenty of `dead ends'. While we were successful with our 2001 mazes, we were somewhat limited with only `paths' and not a `design' cut in the corn. In February of 2002, they attended a Corn Maze Seminar in Madison, WI. Following the seminar they signed a contract with a professional, Shawn Stolworthy of Great Adventure Corn Mazes, who designs and cuts corn mazes. We have obtained copyright permission to use the logo for the World Basketball Championship games, to be played in Indianapolis Aug 29th — Sept 8th, as the main part of the design.
